Meet th Visionary Behind Myth & Legend Coffee

Q: How did you get started in the coffee industry?

Doug: My first taste of specialty coffee was at a street fair in Gary, IN. It was Schweik's Good Soldier Blend from Metropolis Coffee. From there, I jumped down the coffee geek rabbit hole & really got into coffee at a local coffee shop called Grindhouse Cafe in Griffith, IN. I started roasting coffee in Kent, OH, on my popcorn popper as a hobby, but I soon turned that into a side hustle when I bought a 3lb air roaster. I read books, listened to podcasts & watched youtube videos to no end as I tried to grow my skill & my business. Eventually, I got the invite to move to GA & go into business with a few friends & start our coffee roastery & shops.

Q: What’s your favorite Myth & Legend Coffee drink?

Doug: On the regular, it's drip coffee (currently Kenya Kiambu). Occasionally, I go for a spro & tonic (any variation)

Q: If not Myth & Legend, what would you be doing?

Doug: Hard to say, but I likely wouldn't have moved to GA to start into coffee, so I'd probably still be in OH, & would have gone into business with a buddy of mine in home repair. It's likely that I'd still be actively mentoring/investing in people through

Q: What fuels your passions?

Doug: Gratitude. I want to be a good steward of what I've been given: relationships, abilities & opportunities. The realization that I'm not a self-made man motivates me to live in gratitude & to share what I've been given.

Q: And lastly, we always have to ask, what makes you weird?!

Doug: I typically don't drink coffee until 9-10am. My beverage of choice to start the day is a bone broth concoction that I've created.

Bonus: I enjoy a lot of things, but I only geek out on a few things like...
  • my favorite sports team Pittsburgh Steelers (I read about them all year long)
  • my favorite drink is black coffee (washed process that's a sweeter, light roast)
  • my favorite genre of music Switchfoot (yes, I know they're just a band)
